A concrete speaker. Yes, you heard me right, a concrete speaker. What the hell? This may seem really odd, but from an acoustic science standpoint, concrete is both sounds best friend and worst enemy. Those who know sounds know that concrete is terrible for acoustics, it can create terrible echoes and distortions in a room. However, in terms of speakers, concrete is ideal because of its rigidity. Most speakers are made of wood or plastic, however they have to be reinforced, so that the material vibrating with the sound does not disrupt the sound. Master & Dynamic, the company that produced this speaker, found a way to minimize the echoing qualities of concrete by blending it with super secret polymers to reduced vibrations, and allow for a slim, architectural look.
