With the recent popularity of pop-up stores and restaurants, such as teen-superstar Kylie Jenner's popup stores in L.A., it is hardly surprising that pop culture has begun to take advantage of the fad. Cue in the two-day popup in Singapore, where entertainment giant Netflix took over the OverEasy diner to serve prison style food. The menu featured below is a gourmet twist on a typical prison menu, including controversial Nutraloaf, which is a food typically regarded as a punishment to prisoners, and was recently removed from New York state's prison menu in an effort to make prison conditions more humane.

From a design standpoint, the menu and aesthetics of the restaurant are genius-playing on the consumptions of pop culture and making it literal. For others, the restaurant was a source of disgust and anger.
Author of Orange is the New Black, Piper Kerman slammed the restaurant for trivializing and mocking prison life.
Despite the criticism, the restaurant still opened with fanfare and had lines out the door. I suppose what must be taken from this is that while some design may be good, it is not always ethical.
