A marathon in under two hours? Most people can't even run a 5 minute mile

The marathon world record stands at two hours, two minutes, and 57 seconds. Nike recently unveiled the Zoom Vaporfly Elite, a concept running shoe that three world-class runners will wear this spring during an attempt to run a sub-two-hour race. In 1906, the best marathoners clocked in at just under three hours—a sub-two-hour run seems achievable if we continue to progress.

It looks clunky, but that's due to the inch thick foam sole, which conceals a carbon fiber plate thats meant to propel the runner forward. This should increase the runner's economy enough to shave down the marathon times, but they won't know until its tested.
